As Luck would have it!

I have been graced with the finding of a most unusual Peanut.
Now this is no ordinary Peanut! Its Magical,Mysterious, and Very Lucky.

How this came to be-

The story behind this most valuable and precious Peanut.

Last August on a Friday evening I received the most dreaded phone call of my life. Its the phone call that I had feared and stressed over all my life. The one that would let me know that my most valued possession on earth has left to be with the Angels. You see this phone call was to inform me that my Mother had passed away. The day had finally come, my moms time on earth had come to an end, and God was calling her.

That night I gathered myself together and informed my wife of what had taken place and that we needed to get back home to New Orleans for my mothers burial. The next step was to make arraignments to fly home. Unfortunately as luck would have it there was talk of NWA mechanics going on strike. Unfortunately in the state and town that I live in, NWA is the only one available to New Orleans. I had a major dilemma!

The Drive Home-

Well the only obvious solution was to drive home, 2000 miles. We loaded our stuff and our dog and the journey began.

Along the way we stopped for gas, snacks, and lots of coffee. We drove straight through only stopping for gas, and restrooms along the way. We somehow managed to make it to New Orleans in 36 hours. Needless to say we were beat.

The Burial-

My mom was buried in our family plot in one of the oldest cemetery's in New Orleans. It was a bright somber sunny day, as we teared through the service. I could hardly contain myself, as well as the rest of my family members. I said my good byes to my mom and told her that I would miss her , and take care peanut! That's one of the many nicknames that I had for my mom; you see she was well deserving of the nickname Peanut, because she stood a towering 4 feet 10 inches.

A storm brews-

After the service we planned to stay in town for awhile so that we could help my siblings tie up some loose ends, and to stay around each other as we grieved our mothers loss. We had been staying with my sister and we planned on leaving to drive back home on Sunday.

It was late in the afternoon on a Friday a week later of arriving to New Orleans. We we all having dinner, when a mob of neighbors came rushing through the door!

You see as Luck would have it , unknown to us because of living out of town and still being in a fog of grief and delusion; We were in the sights of the worst Hurricane to ever hit New Orleans.

Our plans changed quickly! -

Instead of leaving on Sunday, we quickly packed to leave the next day. It seems somehow we had to rush into town and as Luck would have it, rush right back out.

The Drive home-

Its was Saturday morning with tears in my eyes I told my sister I loved her and the rest of the family as we said our good byes.

Still tired and exhausted from driving down an having to say goodbye to my mom, we dreaded the long journey home.

We quickly realized what we were up against as we tried to fill up our tank at the local gas station. It was like being in a foreign country, the gas line was around the block.

Where it happened-

As we waited our turn in this long line, I asked my wife if she would like anything to eat or drink from the store inside. She replied with the obvious " I take some coffee".

Once inside I poured two cups of coffee and began my usual gas store ritual that I did all the way down here on the trip. I walked up and down each aisle trying to make up my mind on what kinda snack I would have with my coffee. Hmm, the doughnuts looked good, and so did the cinnamon rolls. Yeah the cinnamon rolls.

Just as I reached out to grab those luscious sugar concoctions; a bag fell off the shelve right in front of me. I quickly picked it up and promptly put in back in its place. As I wandered off to pay for my goods, a sudden urge to have the doughnuts took over my thoughts. I did and about face and headed back to the aisle for the old switch-a-roo.

As I quickly made the swap right in front of me a bag of peanuts hit the floor. Thinking to myself , what's up with this bag; this is the second time it fell. I had it in my hand ready to place it back on its shelf, when I said what the heck , I'll eat these for lunch!

Thoughts on the road-

Now as you can imagine 2000 miles is a long way to travel in a car. The biggest challenge is staying awake. Somehow no matter what I thought about , I couldn't help thinking about mom. Somehow thinking that I'll never see her again.

Snack time-

Midway through the day I remembered that I still had those peanuts. As I drove I devoured almost the whole bag. I managed to stop myself , saying to myself save some for later. I quickly tucked the bag under my seat and kept on driving.

It all came together-

When we got home it was about 2:00 a.m. and we were beat. We quickly grabbed the suitcases and the dog and went inside and straight to bed.

About a week later I decided to check my oil, the air in the tires , and to vacuum and wash my 4 runner. As I started to vacuum out the front drivers side, I reached under the seat to discover my leftover peanuts.

I was sure that they were still good, I remembered that I had rolled the bag up tight. As I unrolled the bag , somehow thinking to myself, " man I thought I had half a bag";I quickly came to realize that I only had ONE left. I pulled it out of the bag and right before I was about to crack the shell-I STOPPED!

I looked down and in my hand I held the most beautiful, marvelous PEANUT!

There in my hand, stood a perfectly shaped peanut in the shape of an "L" !

Thoughts ran through my head and It all was clear now -

My mom [Peanut] was sending me a message of LOVE, in the form of a peanut shaped like and "L".

Since then I have as funny as this my sound, a special bond with this peanut.

There also has been a shift in good things happening for me.

I can't explain it, all I could do is look up into the Heavens and say
I love Ya and I miss Ya Peanut!

My Prized possession-

Well Just found out some Lucky News!

For the last two days the Post Office has been trying to deliver a certified letter to me. I new that it was from Coca Cola, but I thought it might be some pictures from a friend of mine that worked there. Well finally the package was delivered today.

As luck would have it, it turns out that Coca Cola is settling a dispute for alleged violations of the US Labor Department. It applies to people that applied for a merchandisers position between 2002 and 2003. It goes on to say something about the selection process for unsuccessful candidates.

As luck would have it, I was one such unsuccessful applicant. So I will be receiving an undisclosed about of money, with a really nice minimum amount but not limmited to that nice minimum amount! So in other words unexpected , unthough of CASH!

Man I will never doubt the power of the Peanut!
